OUTSPOKEN Nationals Senator Barnaby Joyce was not afraid to use the c-word at Tuesday's property rights rally in Canberra.
“There’s a word for it: When the Government’s divesting the individual of the asset, and divesting for communal ownership the word is called ‘Communism’,” he said.
“You cannot just unplug my television set and walk out the door with it and not expect me to chase you. (Those here) are the people who have turned up to chase (their) asset.”
The Senator announced that while he could not deliver any results on the day, the Coalition would instigate a wide-ranging Senate inquiry into the loss of farmers’ property rights – an announcement that was met with an emphatic cheer from the crowd.
But Senator Joyce would not be limited to just property rights – the Queenslander also claimed the Government was not just after assets, they were also after income in the form of an ETS.
“And remember it is politically incorrect to call the bleeding obvious and say ‘No, I won’t let you just walk away with my wallet – No, I want my wallet back!’”
Earlier in the day, farmers marched from Magna Carta Place to the "bunker" on the hill, as they named it, where the Government did not send a representative to listen to their claims as opposition and farm lobby groups addressed the 3000-strong crowd.
