Rain was forecast for South Australia, NSW, Victoria and Tasmania today (Monday) as a frontal cloudband moved east over the continent.
According to The Weather Company, the cloudband was bringing gales and rain to SA, western Victoria and northwestern Tasmania.
And cloud extending from the Northern Territory to NSW in a trough was also bringing thundery showers, with storms reported up and down the east coast, including wild dust storms in the Riverina and Alice Springs.
But according to the Bureau of Meteorology, the best falls have occurred in the south-east of NSW where up to 50mm was anticipated.
But falls so far have been less than that with the Snowy Mountains receiving the best to date.
Between 9am Monday and 6am Tuesday the best falls in SA were: 7mm at Edinburgh, Mt Crawford, Strathalbyn and Parafield, 4mm at Kadina and Keith, 7mm at Mt Gambier and Clare, and 6mm at Pallamana.
In Victoria, Mt William has received 12mm, Cape Otway and Mortlake 14mm, Hamilton 9mm, Yarrawonga 10mm, Falls Creek 37mm, Mt Hotham 40mm, Omeo 16mm, Rutherglen and 18mm.
In NSW Murrurundi received 15mm, Scone 27mm, Bathurst 10mm, Mudgee 13mm, Canberra 16mm, Thredbo's top station 96mm, Gunnedah 22mm, Tamworth 40mm, Cowra 16mm, Dubbo 15mm, and West Wyalong 27mm. Wagga, Griffith and Hay all scored 18mm, while Ivanhoe received 25mm.
The system will move eastwards on Tuesday and out to sea, leaving just light to moderate falls for a band of NSW, the Bureau says.
It follows up from a week of scattered falls around the country, when the south-west of WA and the western half of Tasmania received the best totals of up to 100mm in places.
The Bureau says most cropping areas received 5-10mm last week, while the first of the summer storms hit Queensland over the weekend.
