A German court has denied Monsanto's request to suspend a government ban on the sale and cultivation of its biotech corn MON810.
German Agriculture Minister Ilse Aigner issued the ban in April based on studies showing that the crop could have an adverse effect on the environment.
A court rejected Monsanto's petition for a suspension on May 4 and that decision was upheld Thursday, May 28, finding no evidence German authorities had overstepped their powers.
The European Union has authorised the trait, but Austria, Hungary, France, Greece, Luxembourg and now Germany have banned it.
