After missing out in the first two rounds of accreditation, Wheat Exports Australia (WEA) has today granted AWB its licence to export wheat in bulk for the coming season.
The WEA has accredited two AWB Ltd subsidiaries - AWB Harvest Finance Ltd and AWB (Australia) Ltd - for bulk wheat exports under the Wheat Export Marketing Act 2008.
Acting chief executive, Peter Woods, says this latest approval brings to 13 the total number of accreditations under the Wheat Export Accreditation Scheme.
"The AWB subsidiaries, like the other accredited exporters, have met the eligibility criteria in the Bulk Scheme," Mr Woods said.
"WEA has other bulk wheat export applications under consideration and is still receiving applications.
"The fact that we have now accredited 13 exporters, including AWB, will provide greater confidence to wheat growers and the industry for marketing and exporting the coming wheat harvest."
AWB managing director, Gordon Davis, welcomed the decision, saying the accreditation "enables the company to continue to be a major exporter of Australian wheat".
"This is an important step as AWB has many loyal international customers who want to continue to buy wheat from Australian farmers through pools and the cash market," Mr Davis said.
"AWB Harvest Finance will provide growers with payment security through a ring fenced, trust structure while AWB Australia will provide alternative marketing options for growers.
"Our Western and Eastern Wheat Pools, combined with AWB Australia cash and risk management options, will give growers a competitive range of wheat marketing choices when they deliver to AWB."
