Prices at Thursday’s 1300-head Roma, Qld, prime cattle sale followed the downward trend set at other selling centers this week with prices falling for all descriptions.
Bullocks were down by 10c/kg.
But heifers and cows fared better – down around 5c/kg on last week’s sale.
Steers over 550kg topped at 178c/kg and averaged 163c/kg (-10c) while steers in the 400-550kg range reached 167c/kg and averaged 157c (-12c).
The Jackson family, Maintop, Injune, Qld, sold 716kg Charolais cross steers for 164c/kg or $1176/head, while Brett and Gen Ashney, Ashfields, Roma, sold 700kg Santa cross steers for 158c/kg or $1107/head.
The York family topped the sale with their line of Grain Accredited Simbrah steers.
Dan and Kristy York, Hyde Park, Wallumbilla, sold 677kg Simbrah steers for 178c/kg or $1207/head while Trevor and Jenny York sold 642kg Simbrah steers for 177c/kg or $1138/head.
Heifers over 450kg reached 164c/kg and averaged 144c/kg (-2) while heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 141c/kg and averaged 135c/kg (-8).
Cows over 500kg topped at 139c/kg and averaged 132c/kg (-3c) while cows in the 400-500kg range reached 135c/kg and averaged 123c/kg (-8c).
Bulls over 600kg topped at 140c/kg and averaged 131c/kg (-6c).
