Slow and steady for Mt Gambier, SA, cattle sale

16/07/2008 7:19:00 AM
The pace was far from rushed at Mount Gambier's monthly store market on Friday, as auctioneers slowly but effectively wrenched bids from the rail.

With the yarding pushed past the advertised 2000 head, steers were slightly cheaper on June's rates, with heavier feeder types returning $1.70-$1.90/kg.

Despite the minor easing, vendors were up-beat with their dividends as solid rainfall recordings leading up to the sale played a major part in keeping things positive.

Heifers, however, lifted in line with similar recent improvements in the prime market and sold from $1.50-$1.80/kg or $200-$510.
