Strong demand for quality prime cattle at Roma, Qld, sale

Heavy bullocks and steers were dearer than at last week's sale, in a larger yarding at Thursday’s Roma, Qld, prime cattle sale. Generally, cattlemen continued to enjoy strong demand for quality prime cattle, with 2300 head penned.

However, cows and heifers lost around 5c/kg.

Steers over 550kg topped at 196c/kg and averaged192 (+8). Steers in the 400-550kg range reached 192c/kg and averaged 174 (-2).

The major vendors of the sale were the Hartley family, Coopermurra, Mitchell who sold a line of 240 Brahman steers.

Averaging 600kg, the steers topped at 196c/kg and averaged 193c/kg to return an average of $1157/head.

Heifers over 450kg reached 178c/kg and averaged 163 (-1).

Heifers in the 350-450kg range reached 168c/kg and averaged 154c/kg (-12).

Cows over 500kg topped at 172c/kg and averaged 152c/kg (+2), cows in the 400-500kg range averaged 131c/kg (-8).

Cows in the 300-400kg range topped at 162c/kg and averaged 119c/kg (-5).

Bulls over 600kg topped at 190c/kg and averaged 165c/kg (+2) Bulls in the 400-600kg range reached 174c/kg and averaged 151c/kg (-15).
