Kurralea takes Melbourne Poll Dorset title

19/09/2008 8:12:00 PM
A huge ram of exceptional structure and bone has taken the top award at the Royal Melbourne for 2008.

The 146 kilogram ram impressed judge Neville Greenwood from New Zealand who added he was "perfectly sound with enormous body length".

Breeder Jim Prentice said the 15-month-old ram was one of the best he had ever bred and had the biggest eye muscle reading in the shed at 55mm.

"He is an exceptional animal, very well balanced and he will be well used in the stud but semen is certainly available," he said.

The Banyenong West ewe that took the top female award was also an exceptional animal according to Mr Greenwood.

"She had great muscling and a great example of the breed. Given the ram has so much influence through his genetics he got over the line," he said.
