Big year for farm electronics firm, Farmscan

26 Dec, 2008 11:45 AM
It’s been a big revival this year for Farmscan, the farm electronics manufacturer based in WA.

The company has recorded strong new-season demand for its extensive range of monitoring and controlling systems.

The parent company, Computronics, signed a $5 million manufacturing licensing agreement mid-year, with South America’s largest machinery manufacturer, Stara, for Farmscan to install select systems into its existing machinery lines.

It later acquired the Queensland-based AgGuide GPS guidance and steering systems business, effectively raising the company’s profile in the 2-centimetre RTK precision guidance market.

The company is also making strong gains, with its proven variable rate application technology, in the irrigation industry, where it is becoming especially attractive to centre pivot users.

Computronics also announced an agreement to purchase ‘Thurla Farms’, near Mildura in Victoria, earlier this year.

The property is a leading producer in the region and is integrating its patented aquaculture system into a sustainable agricultural system that will take full advantage of the property’s extensive water resources.

‘Thurla Farms’ will become a test site for Farmscan’s latest products, including its variable rate irrigation (VRI) system for centre pivot irrigation.

Meanwhile, Farmscan general manager Ian Giles this week said further exciting new product and business developments for 2009 would be announced soon.

Farmscan’s head office has been re-located to Airport Park, in Perth.

In Queensland, Farmscan sales and service support is available through its distribution and service centre (formerly AgGuide) in Toowoomba.
