Big property dollars head north

13 Oct, 2008 04:46 PM
Queensland rural property had the most successful winter out of all the States, with $226 million worth of sales above $5m, according to the Australian Financial Review.

It reports that statistics from RP Data show that between May and August more than $436m was spent throughout Australia on properties bigger than 40 hectares and worth more than $5m.

In Queensland Ray White Rural's Lex Heinemann told the Fairfax paper that the State's success was driven by buyer demand out of the drought-stricken Barkly Tableland for higher rainfall areas in Central and North Queensland.

"We are a summer rainfall state and our properties look their best in February and March - May to August traditionally wouldn't be our prime selling spot so this tells you something about the volume in Queensland, doesn't it?" Mr Heinemann said.
