Budget 08: Scullion wanted money for mulesing

15/05/2008 1:42:00 PM
The Opposition's spokesman for agriculture, Nigel Scullion, said he is quite shocked there is no funding from the government to help accelerate research and trials into mulesing alternatives.

"I thought it would have been in there, and I'm very surprised," Senator Scullion said.

"In fact I spent far too long looking for it I was so confident it was going to be in there.

"The industry really wanted to see some research and development that was going to help develop that technical answer for this issue.

"Unfortunately it's not and I and everyone in the wool industry is gob smacked by the difference between the Government's rhetoric on mulesing and the action.

"The industry has been very responsible on this matter and the leadership they've shown on this matter will be enough to see us through."
