Queensland Premier Anna Bligh graced the small screen during the Celebrity MasterChef cook-off tonight, but her political opponents stole the spotlight during the ad breaks.
Ms Bligh copped a minor serve from the judges on the Network Ten program when they told her the duck was slightly overcooked.
But most of the criticism came from the Liberal National party, which had already ridiculed the Premier for agreeing to appear on the show.
Ads that ran during the show in Brisbane featured a black-and-white close-up of Ms Bligh and accused her of telling lies.
"No amount of spin will cover up what Labor is doing to Queensland," the voice-over announcer declared.
The Twittersphere immediately began debating the ads, with some users on the social networking site accusing the LNP of "gutter politics".
Others were simply bemused by the campaign.
Ms Bligh's appearance on tonight's show is now likely to be her last, having lost the first challenge of the competition.
In a showcase of Queensland's finest foods, Ms Bligh cooked up an entree of Moreton Bay Bug with Thai salad, a main of rib eye beef with prosciutto-wrapped asparagus and a dessert of vanilla panna cotta with strawberries.
