NORTH West Queensland missed out on the much needed rain that South East Queensland and North West New South Wales received over Christmas and Boxing Day.
And Mount Isa was no exception, recording no rainfall in the three days over the festive weekend.
The city is below its December rainfall average, only receiving 19mm this month, more than 50mm less than the average.
Mount Isa Bureau of Meteorology field office manager Les Lever said the city had missed out so far.
"Somehow Mount Isa missed out all together and the system slipped south," he said.
"Let's hope in the next few days we can boost our average."
Cloncurry also recorded no rainfall at the weekend.
Julia Creek felt a little bit of relief recording 1mm, with 4mm falling on Richmond.
Burketown seemed to fare much better, recording 11mm of rainfall.
But Normanton was the winner, with 60mm falling on the Shire, a nice gift for many graziers.
Mr Lever said it was not uncommon for a variance in whether for the region.
"It quite often happens this time of year, you get a lot of variety over the area," he said.
While Mount Isa missed out this time, shower and storm activity is expected to pick up from today, continuing through to New Year's Eve.
"That should kick off with afternoon showers today," Mr Lever said.
"We had been expecting some over the Christmas period but it unfortunately they landed further south, fortunate for them but not for us."
