Floods return to NW Qld

27 Jan, 2009 02:28 PM
Residents of North West Queensland are again on flood alert as heavy rain returns to the already sodden region.

Flood warnings have been issued by the Bureau of Meteorology for numerous rivers, including the Nicholson, Gregory, Leichhardt, Cloncurry, Flinders, Norman, Gilbert, Georgina, Eyre Creek, and the Diamantina River.

The Bureau says widespread heavy rain of 50-150mm has fallen across the Gulf Country during the past 24 hours, which is expected to cause renewed river rises and prolonged flooding in the Gulf Country.

Further major flooding is likely this week with the forecast of further rain.
