A MAJOR funding injection by the State Government into new roadside infrastructure in Western Queensland is expected to boost tourism numbers to the region, according to the Member for Mount Isa Betty Kiernan.
Ms Kiernan announced a total of $169,580 for four projects designed to improve the visitor experience in Outback Queensland as part of the State Government's $1.8 million Minor Tourism Infrastructure Grants Program.
The projects are: $26,400 for new calendar of events signage on all entry roads into Boulia; $50,000 for a new public toilet block on the Outback Highway at the Old Hamilton Hotel ruins site; $43,180 for signage, picnic shelters and washing facilities at the Camooweal Drovers Camp; and $50,000 for new toilets, drinking water and shade facilities at Richmond's Number One Fossicking Site
"Not only will this make the area more attractive to the drive tourism market, local traders will benefit significantly as well," she said.
