Have your say on future of NT primary industries

23 Feb, 2010 12:54 PM
TERRITORIANS will have the opportunity to put their views forward on the future development of the NT's primary industries sector following the release of the issues paper Building an Agribusiness Strategy: Partnerships for Productivity.

Primary Industry Minister Kon Vatskalis says the issues paper will seek initial input from industry and community stakeholders to assist in the development of a comprehensive Northern Territory Agribusiness Strategy to facilitate future sustainable economic growth.

"The issues paper contains questions to prompt thought and discussion to further explore key issues faced by the primary industry sector in the Northern Territory, however the paper is by no means exhaustive and feedback is sought on issues not identified in the paper," Mr Vatskalis said.

"I want all Territorians with an interest in primary industries and views on its future, to read this issues paper and add your thoughts to it.

"It is only by ensuring that we have identified all of the issues that may impact on the industry's future, can we then produce a strategy to enable the key stakeholders to deal with them.

"The Agribusiness Strategy will allow us to grow our primary industry sector while striking the balance between future development and maintaining a healthy environment.

The Agribusiness Strategy Issues Paper can be viewed by going to the Department of Resources website www.nt.gov.au/primary_industry and clicking on the link button.

Submissions should be directed to Agribusiness.Strategy@nt.gov.au by COB Thursday, March 11.
