Legendary stock horse honoured

23 Jul, 2009 03:24 PM
THE Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame will be hosting a special night at the Cattleman's Bar and Grill on August 1 to honour the legendary Stock Horse, Warrenbri Romeo, and the sending of his 'Sons of the Southern Cross to the World'.

Warrenbri Romeo was bred by the late Peter Knight, and although they have both gone to rest, they have both become legends and have proven inspirational to breeders throughout the Stock Horse world.

The Romeo horses have proved to be outstanding campdrafters, and with a great turn of speed, they naturally rated their cattle well.

It is an incredible fact that in 1990 at the Warwick Gold Cup, seven of the 15 finalists were sired by Warrenbri Romeo.

Today the tradition continues as Simon Knight presents Warrenbri stallions of Warrenbri Stock Horse Stud, all individually bred for different equestrian disciplines.

In partnership with Guy McLean and in conjunction with HorseTV, The Sons of the Southern Cross will be entertaining crowds leading up to the 2010 World Equestrian Games in Lexington, Kentucky, showcasing "our breed for every need".

While abroad, Simon Knight has been generous enough to lend the bronze statue of Warrenbri Romeo, sculpted by the late Eddie Hackman, to the Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame, where the legend's story will be told while his progeny is taken to the world.

The night promises to be most memorable, with three of the four Warrenbri stallions to be present in horse with Guy McLean, and with the much anticipated handover of the bronze statue of Warrenbri Romeo from Simon Knight to the Australian Stockman's Hall of Fame.

Let's not forget, August 1, is the 'Horse Birthday' ? the most important day of the year in any horse's mind.
