Mackay and Clermont set for MLA Beef Up forums

25/08/2008 3:36:00 PM
Mackay and Clermont are both set to host forums designed to help cattle producers in the region identify opportunities to build their skills and subsequently make more money from their business.

The Meat and Livestock Australia 'Beef Up – more beef, more money' forums will be held on Thursday 4 September in North Mackay, and Friday 5 September in Clermont.

MLA says the forums aim to provide producers with on-property management ideas and practical tools to improve their business.

MLA northern research manager Dr Wayne Hall said the Beef Up forums had been put together in collaboration with local producers and industry to provide clear, concise and practical information, which can be taken away today and applied tomorrow.

"The presentations will focus on the key profit drivers of beef businesses and sustainability practices that can make a real difference to a producer’s bottom line," Dr Hall said.

"We will have the right experts there on the day that producers can talk to. Importantly, producers will also be able to get information and advice on follow-up support and training to help make it happen."

The forum will explore how to improve reproductive performance and live-weight gain, as well as grazing land management, and the issue of succession planning. Producers will also have the opportunity to ask questions and talk to presenters and other expert advisors individually on the day.

The forums will be held at the Windmill Hotel and Reception Centre, 5 Highway Plaza, Bruce Highway, North Mackay, and Blair Athol Hall, Collins Street, Clermont, between 12 noon and 6:30pm.

The cost of entry will be $20 (on a per business basis). Lunch, refreshments and a BBQ dinner will be provided. Registrations can be made by calling 1800 675 717. Those wanting more information about speakers and topics should visit www.mla.com.au/beefup.
