For days now moist easterly winds have been driving over the Queensland east coast, delivering persistent showers. Some areas have even exceeded their average November rainfall.
A high has remained nearly stationary over the Tasman since the weekend, which is delivering the moist easterlies over eastern parts. An upper trough has also been sitting over the region, helping to soak the moisture deep into the atmosphere.
The hardest hit areas have been around the Mid North Coast and North Tropical Coast. Innisfail picked up another 32mm to 9am yesterday morning and 5mm since then, bringing them just over their November average of 155mm.
Between Innisfail and Cairns, Babinda picked up 125mm in the 24 hours to 9am yesterday, making it their heaviest November rainfall in nine years and since their best since April.
On the Central Coast, Proserpine saw their best rain since February and in 10 years for November, picking up 54mm. They have also soared past their November average of 75mm, already seeing 92mm.
The showers will persist tomorrow, remaining heaviest over the North Tropical Coast and Lower Burdekin. By the weekend showers will become isolated and light.
