Chillagoe plays while “Waiting for the Wet”

9/10/2008 4:00:00 AM
WITH the mustering over for another year and western communities drifting into that limbo period before the wet, the Chillagoe community decided to add a bit of excitement and staged a Waiting for the Wet rodeo.

A crowd of over three hundred converged rodeo grounds from outlying stations, mines and across the north for a night of rodeo action and they were not disappointed. Even the pick-up men had trouble staying in the saddle as the Glen Simmons bulls and Brian Teece horses got the best of most of the cowboys.

The bull rides kept rodeo athletes (clowns) Brodie Moss and Paul Muller busy saving riders from certain injury risking life and limb and should be commended for their efforts.

The rodeo was ABCRA affiliated giving riders a chance to add championship points to their total and veteran cowboy, Ron Finch did just that taking out the Open Saddle Bronc.

Mareeba cowboy, Mike Cordingley, took 2nd with Adrian Chong, Cloncurry, 3rd.

Kowanyama cowboy, Telwyn Gibbo won the Novice Bull Ride and Grant Quantock won the Open Bull, Telwyn Gibbo 2nd and Will York 3rd.

It appeared Cody Blacklock did something to upset this bull and the rodeo clown was called on to adjudicate in the misunderstanding.
