POWERFUL finishes were a feature of the Tolga Hotel Race Day held at Morrow Park Racecourse last weekend.
The predicted rainy weather held off, allowing ideal track conditions and all but one of the races on the five-race program were won by over a length.
Sponsor Neal Rockley said Tolga Hotel was pleased to support local country racing as well as providing assistance to junior sporting clubs on the Tablelands.
Race 2 on the card was named the Alan Rockley Memorial Sports Fund Handicap in honour of Neal’s father, an ex-Atherton Shire Councillor who had a strong interest in promoting junior sport.
“The ARMS Fund aims to raise money to assist families with travelling costs or air fares to enable local children to take part in sporting events, and to support junior sport in general,” Mr Rockley said.
The first race on the program was the Rocktrans Maiden Plate over 1000m, easily won by Ian Toward on My Fallacy by almost three lengths from Rashen Roulette and City Fox.
Race 2 also provided a clear winner with the bay gelding Taunus, ridden by Cecily Eaton, romping home by two lengths ahead of Zivador an Special Woman.
Race 3, the QRX Class 6 Plate, was a win by a nose for Hostility, ridden by David Crossland from Montgresin and Jacob’s Trick. Ian Toward made it a double in The Tolga Hotel Open Handicap over 1000 metres when he powered home on Lucipality two lengths ahead of Piraeus and Pure Silence.
In Race 5 Kerry Rockett was on the money bringing home Naynay past the post a length ahead of Positive Thinking and Accolade.
The next Atherton Turf Club meeting will be on Sunday, August 23.
