Cloncurry musters a merry time

5/08/2008 2:24:00 PM
BOOTS, buckles, horses and hats and throw in a mardi gras with a parade, a street party and a two-day hoe down and you have the Cloncurry Merry Muster last week.

Used by many cowboys and cowgirls as a build-up to the Mount Isa big week, the Merry Muster is becoming so popular it would stand alone as a major event on the North-West event calendar.

The weekend kicked off on the Friday night with street party and a procession with floats stretching for two city blocks displaying the industrial diversity of this western community.

Saturday’s race meeting attracted a crowd of almost four hundred people and at the rodeo that evening, double that number flocked to the Cloncurry show grounds to catch the action in the arena and at the after-rodeo hoe down.

Sunday saw a full day of rodeo with the presentations and celebrations at the Post Office Hotel.

A great weekend and congratulations are due to the organising committee for a full weekend of action.
