OF all the competitors that strapped on the chaps for the Einasleigh Rodeo and Races weekend, it was the bulls themselves that had the last laugh.
In a big Easter weekend of events, the money for the open bull ride went begging as all riders failed to make the magic eight seconds.
The outcome was a sign of the quality stock on hand for the rodeo which drew about 280 nominations, a record for the event.
The crowd was also bigger than ever as they came for both the rough and tumble of the rodeo arena and also the class and finesse that is country racing.
Both events celebrated major milestones with the Einasleigh races notching up a centenary of bush meets while the rodeo marked its 25th anniversary.
Some race day goers made the most of the historic occasion by donning period costumes for the event.
The syndicate owned and Les Mosch trained Hobson's Choice won the Einasleigh Cup.
Einasleigh Rodeo Club secretary John Seeley said the weekend holds a special place for those from the area.
“Locals always turn out to support it. Most grew up spending their Easters there so they’ve just kept coming since they were kids,” he said.
John said the events were a financial success as well which helps to plan ahead for next year.
Even the weather played its part with a fine weekend. Einasleigh received a substantial start to the wet season with heavy falls during January and February.
