A CROWD of rodeo and racing fans estimated to be in excess of 4000 people crammed the rails at Mount Garnet over the May Day weekend for the annual Mt Garnet races and rodeo event.
The weekend has established itself as one of the most popular annual events on the North Queensland sporting calendar with an estimated 2000 people electing to camp for the long weekend at the grounds turning into a tent city.
On Sunday it was the bulls and broncs that took centre stage and crowds were treated to some of the best rodeo action seen so far this year.
Rodeo president George Petersen said this year's event had been one of the most successful to date and, despite the large crowd, the event was virtually trouble free.
He said the rodeo along with the two race days provided a huge cash injection into the local community and to have the weekend run smoothly was important to all businesses and residents of Mt Garnet.
One of the highlights at the rodeo was the effort by Brian Teece.
Brian and his contract stock team of workers along with the pick-up men dressed in pink for breast cancer awareness.
Brian, at 48 years of age, rode a bareback horse in the open section for the same cause.
What is more, Brian has not been on a bronc for about 20 years. But he put this behind him, strapped on and rode hard to much applause from the crowd.
Here's a special look at the rodeo and races action.
