 Georgetown lad makes Idol 24

Georgetown lad makes Idol 24

4/09/2008 4:00:00 AM
THE great depth of talent in country music in North Queensland has once again been proven with the young Georgetown man, Mitchell Steele, making the final 24 in the Australian Idol talent competition.

Both Mitchell and his older brother, Dallas made the top 100 but it was Mitchell who most impressed the judges to make it through to the final 24 filmed at Idol headquarters in Sydney.

This follows the Idol success last year of Clancy Keough, at the time from Abingdon Downs, Georgetown.

At the time of going to press, Mitchell was awaiting the outcome of the phone voting on his Monday nights performance.

Success would take him into the final 12.

Wearing his trademark broadbrim hat, Mitchell has stayed relatively close to his country music roots with the songs he has sung so far.

He lists Garth Brooks and Keith Urban as singing idols, but also admits his favourite song is Dear Mr President by Pink, and his ringtone is Big Girls Don’t Cry.
