Tableland lime harvest in full swing

19 Jan, 2010 01:42 PM
LIME production is nearing the end of its season on the Atherton Tableland before moving south.

Dan and Megan Miller, D and M Produce, Dimbulah, had all hands on deck at their property last week in an attempt to get their fruit on to the market before it is flooded.

"At the moment we are packing 400 trays a day," Mr Miller said.

"They are telling us to keep sending them and they will keep buying them.

"We haven't had one complaint about the quality," he said.

After taking over a relatively small orchard of 600 trees in late February the Millers are enjoying their new venture.

They are taking a quality not quantity approach to farming and have been receiving great response to their product.

After the harvest, in the two months that are considered quiet, the Miller's plan to prune existing trees and expand the orchard.

"We are planting 500 trees in the next two months," he said.
