09 Sep, 2010 09:27 AM
The Capricorn Droughtmaster Sale Held at CQLX Gracemere on Wednesday achieved a top of $21,000 for a two-year-old Fernie Cattle Co Bull, FCC Fred.

Sired by Glenavon Felix, the 870kg Fred, who measured an EMA of 133sq cm, sold to Colin Hewitt, Fairhaven Droughtmasters, Fork Lagoon, Emerald, after spirited bidding from around the ring.

Three vendors were in attendance at the sale, including Atkinson & Co, Glenavon Stud, Yaamba, and Joe & Jill Atkinson, Sanders, Dingo.

In total 74 bulls sold to gross $291,000, for an average of $3932, at a clearance of 87 per cent.

The volume buyer of the day was long-time repeat customer, David Moller, Trelawney, Clermont, who took 12 bulls home at an average of $2200.

Another repeat buyer was Bill Cragg, Mourindilla, who has been buying at the Cap sale since its inception, and finds the young bulls on offer in perfect working condition for his Dingo operation.

Commenting after the sale, John Atkinson, Glenavon, said: “It was a very satisfying sale where a vast majority of bulls on offer have gone to repeat buyers, and genuine cattle people that are very astute buyers with an excellent reputation in the commercial industry.”
