COMMERCIAL cattle producers drawn from both corporate and family operations snapped up the bulk of this year’s offering at the fifth annual Elrose Invitation Brahman Sale at Cloncurry on Sunday, as ongoing dry conditions in the State’s central and southern areas prevented many stud buyers from attending.
Hosted by Rodger, Lorena, Grant and Brooke Jefferis on-property at Elrose Station, the sale featured a total of 172 lots sold at an average of $4177, with a 90 percent clearance.
Top price of $16,000 was paid for the 28-month-old grey bull, Elrose Tradewinds, by Stanbroke Pastoral Company, Fort Constantine, Cloncurry.
The 840kg bull, the first of Elrose Trademark's sons, scanned with measurements of 140 square centimetres of eye muscle area, 12mm rib fat and 15mm rump fat.
Stud heifers hit a high of $8500 when Norm Tranberg, Loma Brahman Stud, Allora, bought 22-month-old grey, Elrose Christy.
Other sale highlights saw John Brownson and family, Brownson Brahmans, Charters Towers, outlay $14,000 for 20-month-old grey bull, Elrose Burl Ives, a son of Lancefield Burton Manso.
The sale also included an offering of red Brahman bulls from invited vendors the Radel family, Kandoona Red Brahmans, Injune.
