NUMBERS were tight with a yarding of 234 for the first Mareeba prime sale of the new year, held on January 31.
The yarding included five cows and calves that were sold at open auction, topping at $670/unit.
Quality was mixed, with very few of any category penned.
The better quality light yearling steers made to 171.2c/kg, while a larger run of medium-weights averaged 165c.
Grown steers were lacking weight at times, as the lighter pens mainly sold at 129c, with the better covered pens on 159c. Medium-weight bulls were in reasonable numbers, selling from 95c to 119c.
