CENTRAL and northern cattle producers and Charolais studmasters from across the state will welcome the opportunity that the third Palgrove Charolais Northern Cattle Country Sale presents to them in its offering of 40 high-quality bulls at Charters Towers on Tuesday, February 7.
David and Prue Bondfield of Palgrove Charolais Stud, Dalveen, have no doubt that their 2012 sale line is the best draft of bulls they have taken off their property to present at a sale. The Bondfields' confidence in their statement is certainly endorsed by the extra- ordinary strength of bloodlines backing this year's team.
Twenty individual sirelines are represented in the sale, and the pedigrees and production performance of the damlines is very powerful, and includes matrons from the top shelf of the breed-leading stud.
Sale co-agent Ken McCaffrey said they haven't catalogued a better selection of Charolais bulls in northern Australia.
"We're delighted that the impressive types on offer are all backed by real genetic 'grunt' the most attractive combination of breeding lines that has ever been presented to central and northern beef producers," he said. Ten bulls are poll and the sale line is in three age groups: 10 bulls 25 to 29 months, 20 bulls 21 and 22 months, and 10 bulls 17 to 19 months.
Mr Bondfield said a number of real sale stars are included in this year's draft in each of the age groups.
Lot 303 is a poll, Red Factor, natural heavyweight son of Palgrove Barrister, while two sons of Palgrove Academy, lot 306, Formula, and lot 307, Empire, show exceptional muscling and quality. Formula is bred out of the great cow Palgrove Festoon, the grand champion female of Beef 2009.
From the autumn drop, sale selection lots 311, 312, 313 and 319 are among the standouts, according to Mr Bondfield.
Lot 311, Force (poll), by the full French sire Pinay, is out of a flush from the celebrated poll cow Palgrove Digna 82.
Four brothers to this fellow averaged $13,000 at the 2011 Palgrove on-property bull sale.
Lot 312, Francais, is himself a full French bull imported to Australia as a frozen embryo from the UK.
"He is a rare offering for the Charolais breed in Australia," Mr Bondfield said. "He has a great sire's presence, tremendous thickness and a highly sought-after pedigree."
Frenchman, lot 313, is also a quality full French sire prospect by Pine Grove Jacques, out of a cow that has produced sale sons selling to $15,000.
The 22-month Palgrove Fritz, lot 319, is another impressive poll, Red Factor bull of eye-catching type.
The lead bull of the younger section, Palgrove Freighter, lot 331, is a real standout with his natural thickness and sire's presence. He is a poll by Airlie Advantage out of a poll cow.
Bull buyers will be attracted to lot 333, Fernando, and lot 335, Felix, as they are both 18-month, high-class sires. At last year's Brisbane Royal Show, Fernando was placed third.
Mr Bondfield said the natural volume, doing ability and optimum growth and weight of Felix make him a "must inspect" for beef producers.
"Last year, bulls sold from $3000 to $13,000 at our sale which caters to all buyers and all budgets. We are proud to be bringing this year's tremendous draft to Charters Towers for the consideration of progressive cattle producers."
