HARD hitting and fast-scoring Twenty20 cricket came to Richmond last week as the community raised money for the flooded Gulf communities.
The Richmond Shire Mayoral Charity Twenty20 Cricket Match was held at Charlie Wehlow Oval, Richmond where a 100-strong crowd braved the hot weather and was treated to a great day of spills and skills at the Town versus Country match.
More than 50 nominations were received and the teams were determined by a draw.
The Country team won the competition, scoring 83 runs to the Town's 72.
Man of the Match went to Dean Limpus, of the Country side.
The threat of donning a pink feather boa for missed catches provided an incentive for some spectacular catches.
Richmond Mayor and Country captain John Wharton praised the community's fundraising effort.
"The $5000 raised from our small community in six hours was staggering, well above anything we anticipated, indicating that the country spirit is well and truly alive," Mr Wharton said.
Richmond Council and Town captain Stephen Single said the demand from players was so great that an additional game was organised for the evening, and gave the kids under 12 a chance to show their form.
