It's official – Australian Farmed Barramundi meets the highest international food safety standards, guaranteeing consumers a great tasting, healthy product from farm to table.
Dr Ken Chapman, president of the Australian Barramundi Farmers Association, said the independent research results were a proud reflection of the farming practices of ABFA members.
"Consumers want to purchase the freshest, tastiest, healthiest fish they can buy; these are all the qualities you will find in Australian Farmed Barramundi," Dr Chapman said.
The independent research was conducted by the South Australian Research and Development Institute, which have a Deed of Agreement with the Australian Quarantine Inspection Service (AQIS) to run residue control on the export of Australian seafood into European Union (EU) markets.
The analytical testing, which was conducted randomly on barramundi grown on ABFA member farms, found no chemical residues or contaminants in any of the samples.
They all passed the stringent quality controls of the 2007/08 ABFA EU market access program and were compliant with AQIS and EU Directive 96/23/EC.
"These results confirm that consumers can be 100pc confident their Australian Farmed Barramundi meets the world’s highest standards for quality and safety," Dr Chapman said.
"This is a really good excuse to put some Australian Farmed Barra on the barby and celebrate this healthy, iconic eating experience tonight."
The ABFA companies which participated in the research were: Barramundi Gardens, Daintree Saltwater Barramundi, Good Fortune Bay, Great Barrier Reef Barramundi, Humpty Doo Barramundi, Infinity Fisheries, Exmouth Gulf, Marine Produce Australia and Southern Barramundi.
