Quest for best butt heads to Isa

25 Mar, 2009 04:00 AM
THE Mount Isa Buffs Club bid to host a semi-final has been confirmed and it's happening in Mount Isa this Friday, March 27.

The mining Mecca of the outback won the right to stage a semi-final ahead of several other North Queensland cities.

Those wishing to stick their butt out for appraisal and a chance to win some great prizes can 'front up' on Friday.

You can enter on the night or go to the website and download a form, but you must be over 18.

Entry is free and registration starts at the Mt Isa Buffs Club at 7pm.

Dirt and Dust event organiser, Margie Ryder, said it was difficult to get the Australia's Best Butt competition up and running, but things have finally worked out well.

After sending out one final bid for sponsorship, the call was answered when AirAsia confirmed that the prize winners at the final heat in Julia Creek on April 4 will receive a return ticket each from Gold Coast to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

"It is the icing on cake to finally secure an overseas sponsor and it raises the profile once again for Julia Creek's Dirt and Dust Festival," Margie said.

Next year there will be heats in Mount Isa, Townsville, Longreach, Brisbane and Sydney, and any town that can attract financial sponsorship for the competition will be also considered.

Winners of the Mt Isa semi-final stand to win a prize package valued at $400 and automatic entry into the final at Julia Creek on Sunday, April 4.
