RAIN ensured that the annual Queensland Mud Trial Championships held at Sarina on May 2 and 3 was the best on record with some spectacular action.
Several thousands people watched the standard, buggy and bomb vehicles race around the track at the Sarina Showgrounds with mud flying in all directions.
They came from far and wide including Peter Vukovich from Goondiwindi who drove his converted International truck called Liddle Deviot in the bomb section with Rowan Barton his navigator.
“The track is great and very muddy with rain before racing on both days,” Peter said.
Competitor Adrian Simonsen was struck in the eye with some mud and was being looked after by his partner Bec.
“The racing has been good out here and the crowd is big,” Adrian said.
Steve Whitehead was competing in a vehicle called Ball Shaker and said the action was fast and furious.
“The rain just made the track perfect for great racing,” he said.
Gus Gutschlag and Denelle Coleman had been in a vehicle called Bad Idea and had mud all over them.
Competitors got to hose down the vehicles and themselves after the races- something that proved no easy feat in most cases.
Several drivers had to exit their vehicles during a race or trial when they broke down and the ambulance was on hand.
