The government has spent more than $21 million buying about 1.2 million hectares of cattle stations in Cape York.
The Australian Financial Review reports that under the Cape York Tenure Resolution Implementation Process, the government has backed land purchases for conservation purposes and to return homelands to traditional owners.
The state government said in March that it intended to buy more properties that bordered Koolatah Station, such as Harkness and Crosby Creek Station.
Crosby Creek has since been bought for $3.8 million and Strathmay Station, which borders Crosby Creek, was bought by the government for $4.62 million.
