Bridge repairs on track

17/06/2008 1:44:00 PM
CSR Sugar Burdekin Region’s Landers Creek cane railway bridge will soon be ready to carry cane trains and the Expedition Pass Creek Bridge reconstruction will be completed within three weeks.

The two bridges were destroyed in the February 15 flood and cane farmers at Millaroo and Dalbeg lost their rail link to the Invicta Mill at Giru.

CSR Sugar Burdekin Region Cane Supply Manager Brett Jurd said Millaroo and Dalbeg growers will start supplying cane next week and it will be hauled by road around Expedition Pass Creek until that bridge was operational.

Due to the late start by the affected growers CSR Sugar would increase their harvesting schedules so they could catch up with other farmers in the milling area.

“CSR is also preparing an advanced payment option to assist growers and harvesting contractors with cash flow until the bridges are fully operational,” he said.
